I am often asked, “What is it that you do?” And I begin by saying, “I am a reflexologist” at which point I am met with some well intended eye-rolling.

Why am I speaking now?

I believe that messages have a way of repeating themselves.  I believe that they can get louder, but more often than not – they simply repeat.  I use this principle within sessions in contract with the guides I am working with.  When something is repeating in my head over and over again or I am unsure how to express something I simply say, “Whisper it to me again.”  And if it is whispered in my being again during the end of session discussion, I speak the words.   In this case, my case, the guides have whispered and they have screamed.  They have sent physical beings in this incarnation and yet I’ve faltered.  I have heard and I have known and I have faltered.  And so it is time for this new journey to begin for me.  A journey where I openly share that which is emerging within my work.

But first I must explain why I took the path I took…

When I first began the process of designing my website, my beloved sister begged me not to go “there” for “that” was a realm that she was not comfortable within.  A language she did not speak.  Yet she knew the importance of “what you do”.  Couldn’t I present myself a bit more mainstream so people like her could feel I was approachable and take advantage of what I do?  I believe that when I hold my light in integrity and joy, it is expansive and creates space for others to stand within their own light.  And so I have tried, to varying degrees of success, to stay mainstream-ish in my speech.  (I whole heartedly give permission to those of you on both sides of the spectrum to laugh at that notion– I’m laughing right there with you.)

What reflexology looks like for me?

I have been asked to speak directly about “what is it” that I do.  And so, here are some aspects of what I do: I am a reflexologist.  True. As a reflexologist, I work with the philosophy that the macrocosm of the body is represented in the microcosm of the ears, hands or feet.  By accessing specific locations, or reflexes, specific regions of the body can be impacted.

Reflexology is the modality that opened the door for my work.  I am fiercely loyal to it and staunch promoter of its development and integrity.  (Fierce, I say!)  I am also an expanding awakening being of consciousness.  And that means something other than a lot of buzz words.  For me, it means that I am becoming increasingly aware of my direct connection to the energetic forces that make up the mind, body and spirit.

Some of you have heard me speak to pieces of this and some of you have not.  And those you that have, it has most likely grown since we last spoke.  In truth, I drafted this article less than two weeks ago and as I work at editing it, I find that many aspects have sifted already.  And more will awakenings will occur today and again tomorrow and so on.  Energy and awareness are in motion and expanding.  And this is good.  It’s pretty darn wonderful in truth.

The beginning of my energy awareness.

In all honestly, I had thought my story began in reflexology school.  Within the first few practice sessions I began to become aware of different “knowings” in my body.  These sensations are hard to describe as they are unique to me and my interpretation, but I shall try to give some impressions.  Sometimes, it was if I found a dear friend who knew me and I knew her, we’d been apart but yes – we knew the depths of each other.  Sometimes my fingers would feel like I had touched an electrical current.  Other times I would see my clients twitch each time I touched two spots together.  Most of the time, I was aware that something had changed but I could not pinpoint what it was.

I would go to school and say “What is this?”  and my professors would scrunch up their faces and say, “I’m not sure – maybe xxxx?”  I still email my colleagues, “Are you experiencing something here with your clients?”  Sometimes some one will have read something in a book that references something like what I am describing, but most of the time – the emails come back asking me what I really think it is.   I have learned not to try to remain in the realm of academia during sessions for what was and is happening is far behind pathology.  Yet, I do openly admit to finding great comfort in pathology as a concrete explanation for the rest.

I thought this was the beginning, but I have come to realize that I have always had awareness in my body.  I have always sensed the presence of others – in the physical realm and the spirit.  I simply did not know this was not a shared experience.  And for this I am glad, or I would have disconnected.  I would have turned it off in the same way I have seen some children turn off their gifts that don’t fit our daily expectations.
As I grow into this awakening, the work shifts.  I have had to learn to ask different questions and say, “I see you” when something is faint and allow it to come into the light.

When I first touch the feet, it is not the texture of the skin that resonates most deeply within me but rather the pull – Where were my hands pulled today?  I believe that the body heals with purpose and a plan.  I believe that our bodies are communicating to us and creating opportunity for an awakening to appreciating all of our possibilities as perfect, right now.

I could force my game plan of trying to get the body to heal in the specific order that makes sense to me or is desired by my client, but I do not see that as being highly effective.  There is purpose to the wisdom our bodies hold – and when we honor this wisdom, the depths of our understanding expands.  So, I honor where the energy wants to draw my attention and I acknowledge that “I see” the question that is being asked.  I also know not to become fixated on that impression for it is just a starting place.  Once the work on the table begins and the body begins to heal, the energy redirects and I adapt to meet it, fully in the moment with it.
The sessions begin and impressions often start flowing….

When a session begins on the table, impressions begin to flow almost immediately.  Let me clarify that in this moment – in this place of my expansion, when I am working with a client who has opened the door for spirit to flow, I believe I serve as a conduit for their guides to be heard.  These are not my guides, but rather yours.  If guides are not part of how you organize your awareness, I do not pull forward my own guides.  As a conduit, I amplify what is yours.

Guides show up in all kinds of ways – some come as physical entities.  I am aware of them as fully as I am aware of you.  I know that they are a different form of energy but they are no less vibrant to me.

I have had to ask guides to leave the room as they have moved my hands too many times during a session. I’ve experienced guides in disagreement with each other. One particular guide is so strong that I have to constantly check to see if the sound is the client or the guide. There can be smells, sounds or colors.  Animals come.  One guide hit me on the back of my head when they thought I was not paying attention to them.  I have thought for sure more than one client was about to get out of their body and walk across the room as their energy lifts up and readjusts.  So to the physical body can transform – now it looks this way, now it doesn’t.  And I do mean this literally.  (Fortunately, the first time a foot changed color was with a particularly energetically attuned client so I was able to relate the experience to them as I worked to check the “validity” of what I was seeing.)

Smoke can fill the room and some times there is just no way is that CD player going to work.  I cannot tell you the number of CDs I have “tested” over and over again to see if they some how had a scratch on them.   I speak to these experiences as a way of saying – I believe that spirit and energy want to communicate.  I believe that when we set healthy and wise boundaries as we call in energy – what I acknowledge as “guides” show up. What I have described is some of the ways they show up in this way to me.  They show up this way because this is how I can interpret them at this time.  Yesterday they continued to push the boundary for bringing literal information and placing themselves so that I can have markers to for ease in identifying them quickly.  I know that they are going to push my understanding of symbols that are unique for our work together.

As my awakening shifts, they are able to come differently.  Some come asking for me to literally speak their words, others ask for help translating a concept.  They show up because they know I am listening.  More than one spirit has clearly let me know that they have no intention of using me again – the physical being on the table is who they want to speak with directly.  I provide that message and I usually don’t hear from that being again.

They show up because I am clear in my belief that I am expanding and calling in this transformation.  Each day, they show up in a new way. (And you can hear me calling them in as I write this.)  Their messages can be for me as to help better guide the work or for you to take with you on your journey.  I want to say that when we are in session, not only can additional spirits show up – but in each and every session, you show up.
This is very important - you show up

When I am getting zapped with electricity or my fingers feel like I am touching hot coals that is a direct connection between your energetic bodies and mine.  I may serve as your whisper – but the message came from your energetic life connections.  I use the physical modality of reflexology to access the energetic field.  It has been suggested that I provide energy, align energy, reconnect scattered particles and more.  I believe that I help hold and create sacred space where the work we do together creates an opportunity for you to do the work of healing.  I am a conduit, a source of energy, and an amplifier– you do the work of healing.

Energetic Readings

I have always been very clear that my work would grow. Hence, “and Healing Arts” as a business name.  I have also been clear that this modality is wanting to come through more and more.  In all honesty, putting the boundary of the reflexology session on the work is comfortable to me because it allows a safety net.  Hey, if I don’t get lots of messages well then they still get a great healing opportunity!  I am really good at what I do.

But the door has opened for the readings.  They started coming for people I knew that were attuned to such work and I would just offer them for consideration.  They have come as a few words and as novellas, well not quite but it sure seemed like it!  And so now it is time to honor this work and offer it more fully.  I am both nervous and excited.  And yet I know that this is meant to be part of the journey and that much more is to come!  I have asked, “What is next?” and the question is being answered.  It is important to me that our work still be what it is at its roots, but a different stage of its awakening is the way of expansion.  And I welcome that, I call in this experience with reverence and gratitude.

In this moment, this is my truth.  What whisper do you hear?
